Wonder Review (Non Spoiler)

***** 5 stars

First I want to say that I loved this book... It was so eye opening and has really left a huge mark on me.... I will never look at face 'disfigurements' (hate that word but it's the best way to describe it) again.

This book is about a boy who was born with a face 'disfigurement,' and about his life and his encounters with other people.

This book follows a variety of different points of views (POVs) including his sister and people he has just met. It follows their story on seeing him for the first time, what they thought, and also their own stories about their own difficulty when dealing with other people. Things that are really relate-able, which I was not expecting when going into this!

Our main character, August, is about to start school for the first time and he is petrified because all his life people have done nothing but stare at him, making him feel scared of what people will think of him.

I loved when he started school because you could really see a change in his personality, he became more out going and more like a regular 10 year old boy. It was so inspriring because he could have easily hidden away in his room and never having to face the world (I mean he did have a pretty good excuse) but he didn't do that. Instead he went out and he faced his fear, and he overcame it. A true role model.

Another thing about this book was when I was reading his sisters point of view, that is really what opened my eyes and really made me feel for her. August's situation was difficult no doubt about that. But reading from her point of view made me realize that she is also suffering, which never would have occurred to me before. I also loved how I could really relate to her as she was having difficulties with her friends and lets be honest we've all had that, not really knowing where you fit in anymore. That and her home situation for her was so interesting to read about, she is easily one of my favorite characters.

I never realised just how cruel this world could really be until I read about August. August was just a normal kid who was born to stand out, and I loved how he dealt with situations when other people where behaving like an A$$.

There where many points where I laughed, I cried, and was just plain shocked by the cuelness and how ignorant people can be. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone, as this is a book that will stay with me for a long time.

This quote describes this book quite well...

This book is worth a lot.

Thanks for reading!
